The Union Territory
of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is wedged between the highly
industrialised cities of Mumbai, Surat and Vapi. From
1779 to 1954, the land was administered by the Portuguese
colonialists and later, after its liberation, by a local
administration until 1961 when it merged with the Indian
Union. Silvassa is the capital of the Union Territory.

and Nagar Haveli is not less than a paradise for those
who are looking for a tranquil holiday. It is a land
of spell-binding beauty where lush green forests, waterfronts,

Weather
The
climate of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is warm and humid
during the summer months but less warm during the monsoon
months. The south-west monsoon from June to September,
brings copious rain to the territory. The rainfall is
about 250 to 300cm. The winter months are generally
pleasant.

Interest Vanganga
Lake Garden, Dadra: Located at the entrance
of the U.T. of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and this beautiful
garden at Dadra (6km from Silvassa ) is spread over
an area of 7.58 hects. The major attraction are its
water spread framed with tree line, boats, fountains,
restaurants and jogging track on an average 4.00 lakhs
tourists visits the garden every year.
Hirwavan Garden, Piparia: Named
after a tribal deity ‘Hirwa’ is another
beautiful garden at the entry point at Silvassa. The
sight of colourful shrubs, criss crossing footpaths
and kiosks will fascinate any vistor.
Tribal Museum, Silvassa: The museum
display ornaments, musical instruments, fishing and
hunting gadgets, agricultural and house hold articles,
and several other artefacts used by the tribals. The
museum is popular with the tourists as it offers the
glimpse of the native tribals and their culture at
one place.
Vanvihar Tourist Complex, Chauda:
the complex offers luxury and economy class accommodation
to the tourists. The surrounding area has also been
landscaped and tourists throng in thousands to see
and enjoy the location apart from the tourists staying
in the complex.
Tapovan Tourist Complex, Bindrabin:
The famous historic temple of Lord Siva is located
(18 Kms. From Silvassa and 2 Kms. From Khanvel) at
Bindrabin and devotees make a bee line to seek blessing
of the diety. This tourist comples also houses Cottages,
Restaurant and amusement park with fountains and well
laid garden.
Water Sports Centre, Dudhani: For
adventure loving tourists, the department provide
water scooters, acquabikes, bumper boats, speed boats,
kayaks, canoes and passenger boats at the Water Sports
Centre, Dudhani.
Himaivan Health Resort, Kauncha:
This super luxury health resort, near the water front
at Kauncha, Dudhani provide a new concept of Health
tourism in the tranquil woodlands of Kauncha village.
Festivals
& Events
The
customs, dances, and rituals of the local tribes are
also reflected in their folk dances, fairs and festivals.
Some of the festivals of the region include:
- Diwali is celebrated by the name of Barash by Varli
and Kokna tribals.
- The women of Kokna tribe also celebrates Akhatrij.
- Divaso and Rakhi Bandhan is celebrated by many tribes
of the territory.
- Kali puja is celebrated by all tribes of the territory
after harvesting the crops.
Similarly, Gram Devi is celebrated by all the tribals
in the region before the harvest season.
- Tarpa dance, the Mask dance or the Bhavada is popular
dances of tribes.
When to Go
The best
season to visit Dadra and Nagar Haveli is November to
March.
