Dalhousie Hill Station - Picturesque Dalhousie - Singing Hills and More

Spread along five hills, picturesque Dalhousie, at 2,700 m above sea level, is surrounded by the snow-clad mountains of the western Dauladhar range.  It opens the doors to the ancient Chamba hill region of Himachal Pradesh.Named after Lord Dalhousie, this hill station has a distinct Scottish and Victorian influence on its buildings and has hosted many famous personalities.

Trekkers and nature lovers make a bid for Dainkund, the highest mountain in Dalhousie, which presents a mesmerising view of its picturesque valley, with a river flowing through it.  The sound of the breeze through the trees has earned the nickname of the 'singing hill' for Dainkund.

Fairly close by are the Bakrota Hills.  The mall road going around the Bakrota Hills, gives fascinating and matchless views of snow-tiered mountains and dense, green conifer forests.  Khajjiar, between Dalhousie and Chamba, oft called the 'Switzerland of India', is decked with meadows, imposing deodars, a lake fed by innumerable streams and a snow-line that appears above its forests.

With a wintry climate all the year round, it's best to carry heavy woollens when visiting Dalhousie.  May-July is the best time to visit, but though the days are warm, the evenings are cool and the nights are chilly.
