You may have some time for leisure on the first day of your Colours of New Zealand Tour. If time permits, you may like to visit the tallest building, the 328-m Sky Tower, Auckland’s iconic landmark, from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire city. If you wish, you can stroll down to the city’s lively Viaduct Harbour, with many bars and restaurants, and spend the rest of the evening seeing the splendid yachts berthed there. Overnight at hotel in Auckland.

Day 2 : Auckland

Following breakfast, you will be guided on a city tour of Auckland. With several lakes, lagoons, rivers, islands, two harbours, and many splendid parks, it ranks high on the world index as a city having “quality of life”. You will be driving across the beautiful Harbour Bridge to the North Shore, before turning to the posh Queen Street and Viaduct Basin. You will be stopping at the Auckland Domain, one of the city’s largest parks resting atop an extinct 62,000 year-old volcano, with interesting sculptures and a museum in its’ verdant grounds. The journey will continue to Parnell Village, where there will be a morning tea break and where you may do some shopping at its’ trendy boutiques, handicraft shops or relax in a café. You will then be taking a scenic route when you drive along Tamaki Drive to visit the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park near Mission Bay, with a memorial to the first Labour PM of New Zealand. The Park grants panoramic views of the harbour area of Whenua Rangatira, Auckland city, and Waitemata Harbour. The Park has pretty gardens, a pond, and is a popular place for wedding ceremonies and flying kites. You will be returning to your hotel after this visit. Overnight at hotel in Auckland.

Day 3 : Auckland-Rotorua via Waitomo

Post-breakfast, you will be taken for a guided tour to Waitomo Caves via Waikato. The Waitomo limestone caves are famous for their glow worms and stalactite formations. You will find caves illuminated by thousands of shimmering glow worms, turning this into a dream experience. After this, you will be travelling through the rugged forested area of the Mamaku Ranges to the amazing thermal “wonderland” of Rotorua that rests on Lake Rotorua. Overnight at hotel in Rotorua.

Day 4 : Rotorua

After breakfast, you will be visiting the rich agricultural park to see the Agrodome Farm Show, where animals perform, and also see the world-famed merino sheep. There’s a Woollen Mill and Shearing Museum, giving the history of the pioneers who came here; besides there are souvenirs you can buy, a café and a restaurant. Following this, you will be proceeding to New Zealand’s renowned thermal village of Te Puia, which has spectacular geysers, mud-holes and vents churning steam. You will also be able to watch the Maori craftsmen at work, weaving and carving, in this village. Your next halt will be at the immensely beautiful Rainbow Springs Nature Park, with sculptured ponds, blooming gardens, Kiwi birds and other fauna. You can relax when you return to the hotel in the evening. Overnight at hotel in Rotorua.

The highway drive itself will take you through splendid scenery and the viewing platforms at Franz Joseph reveal the awe-inspiring beauty of this wonderful region. You will have the rest of the day to spend as you wish. There are many activities you can indulge in (at your own cost), such as: valley walks, white-water rafting, or relax in hot pools fed by the glacier’s waters.
