Officially the Republic of Singapore is a South East Asian city-state, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, north of the equator. An island country, the world’s cleanest city and also acclaimed as a ‘garden city’, Singapore has the knack to   throw up all kinds of surprises to keep the tourists stunned with its presence! Get on board the flight to Singapore, and further on cruise to Bintan!

An archipelago comprising 63 islands, Singapore has hundreds of parks, is home to numerous animals, birds and insects, some of which are endemic, boasting of its immaculate and neatly designed areas. Each area segues into the next  with its own atmosphere and individuality, from the lazy serenity of the Swan Lake to the dense, humid greenery of the rainforest zone to the carefully pruned bonsai and orchid gardens to the sensitive landscaping which sits side by side, with huge old trees that first poked their heads above ground.

Day 1: Delhi - Singapore

After checking into a hotel, the representative would immediately lay out theitinerary for the tourists! It would be pleasant to start the trip with the great urban green spaces, known as the Botanic Gardens, an admirable exercise in managed vegetation, as the area is officially called the Central Catchment Nature Reserve which is a masterpiece of urban wilderness planning and suddenly melts into different branches and the flora and fauna enclosed within. From the Swan Lake to Bonsai and Orchid Gardens, move along placidly through the entire thick stretch of the rainforest zone and the curvaceous hills to give yourself the most enchanting visual treat!  After this you may proceed to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, a pure, clear rainforest area which has the world’s largest Bird Park in Jurong with brightly-coloured birds, and, several charming gardens. It is engulfed with urban rainforests laid with a concrete path as the side trails plunge deep into a dense expanse of greenery, so rich with different plant species. Linked to Bukit Timah is the MacRitchie Reservoir nature reserve, which is ringed with dozens of kilometres of trails, where walkers can spot macaques, monitor lizards, the occasional python and flying lemur, and cross over the Treetop Walk suspension bridge, thereby ending up at the reservoir park in solitude facing a complete retreat from civilisation with just the singing sound of nature to captivate their spirits! With so much to do, most travellers wonder whether they should spend their time absorbing the tranquility and charm of Singapore, or get engrossed in some outdoor activity, or whether they should drink and dance the night away, returning to the hotel to sleep for the night!

Day 2: Singapore

Overlooking the Strait of Johor, the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve nature reserve in the far north of Singapore is home to a vast species of birds and the best time for viewing the vast array of vividly-coloured creatures from this region is early morning, though on a weekday the reserve is blissfully serene.

After this quick trip, families and tourists looking for a compact thrill would be immensely satisfied to visit Sentosa, enclosing crisp adventures as they stop over at historical monuments, the world-class entertainment spots, including Resorts World Sentosa, breezing over the most enjoyable island in Southeast Asia. The entertainment resort offers stunning views of Singapore, mountain biking, and diving with sharks off the emerald green island. Sailing, swimming, water-skiing, kayaking, go-karting provide fun even for children, while rock-climbing, skateboarding, mountain biking, and swimming with the sharks at Sentosa’s Underwater World are for the thrill-conscious adults. Mount Faber is very rewarding as you traverse thick forests to finally get a panoramic view of the island, resting in its glory on the southern fringe of the city, opposite the Harbour Front Centre.  From the peak, the unique mettle of the city spirals around  the horizon in all directions. To get to the top and save time, ride the spectacular cable car from Harbour Front, but if at leisure, take the shuttle bus, or if a trekking freak, gear up for the climb from the bottom. Overnight stay at the hotel!

Day 3: Singapore

After breakfast, start with a trip to the world-class Zoo and Night Safari where the animals are kept in a beaming and protective state,  as they are precious creatures  sharing their space with human beings visiting them. The highlights include a large dome where lemurs and mouse deer scamper across your path, tree kangaroos laze in the branches and large flying foxes munch fruit in front of your face. The tourists might just have an encounter with unnervingly large monitor lizards which can whizz across the water like prehistoric sea serpents, observe playful otter families hunting fish and saltwater crocodiles lurking in the water, if visible. Many of the animals are free-ranging, and there could be an encounter with cheeky primates such as cottontop tamarins, white-faced sakis, gibbons and siamangs. Rest assured, there are a few places where you can stand under trees with orang-utans a few feet above your head. Also watch out for the proboscis monkeys, unmistakable with their huge red bellies. As the evening sets in, the Night Safari next to the Zoo opens its huge gates to visitors to close up with nocturnal creatures such as leopards, free-ranging deer and the Malayan tiger. Overnight stay at the Safari or the Hotel, as you put yourself to sleep, lost in the thoughts of the applaudable visual wonders that occupied your day!

For shopping, as you stroll browsing around local markets and shophouses in the ethnic enclaves to the glitzy portals of Orchard Road, overflowing with designerware apparels, perfumes, accessories, bags, watches, cosmetics and curios, rare gems and stone-studded jewellery in silver, gold and diamonds, rolling  through the fashion emporiums or poking around antique shops in Chinatown  for souvenirs in semi-precious stones, brass, bronze, porcelain, ceramic, the experiences are wide, varied and intriguing. Luxury couture, the hottest names fresh from the world’s runways, art exhibitions and even cloud viewing attract an in-vogue shopping crowd at the  ION Orchard on Orchard Street, so welcome to Singapore’s most glamorous shopping complex with a glass, marble and steel work of art where there are even extra special toilets for high spending customers and celebrities. Superior services include butler style concierge and a celebrity chef fine dining establishment.

However, fabulous knick knacks and other memorabilia are also found in China Street,Arab Street, Little India and the suburban areas like Holland Village, Katong and Tampines.

For the taste buds, there is a wide range of international cuisine in Sinapore! For Indians there is authentic North and South Indian food besides Kashmiri food and chaatmasala! There are beer barns, Irish pubs, dance clubs and karaoke bars, live music in cafes and, at some bars and cafes; you will get snacks even after dinner time. Coffee houses and tea houses serve sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes, while the Chinese tea houses serve dim sum and dumplings. The Peranankan cuisine is very popular, especially the desserts, so is grilled, barbecued, seafood, fusion food, and tiger beer. Roadside stalls serving chilly crabs, chicken, and wine abound. Some favourite dishes include chicken rice, fish-head curry, clay-pot seafood, oyster omelettes, beef rendang, char kway teow, and sambal stingray. Casinos in the city keep everyone happily occupied and cheerful!
