Haryana lies
in the northern part of India and is bordered by the
Indian states of Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Himachal
Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, and therefore, most
of tourists who come to India pass through Haryana.
It was here in Haryana, that Lord Krishna taught us
about Karma and Dharma through "The Bhagwad Gita". It
was here that Ved Vyas wrote Mahabharat (in Sanskrit)
on the banks of Saraswati River. This small state was
founded in 1966 when the former state of Punjab was
divided into Haryana and the modern Punjab.
Tourism
Haryana
has many tourist complexes, motels and camping sites
in landscaped gardens to promote tourism which are named
after Birds found in Haryana.The state has a rich variety
of craft, folk dances and fairs & festivals. It is also
known for its rustic humour, brave soldiers, dairy products,
Murrah buffalos and Basmati rice.
Weather
In
Haryana, the climate is very hot in summer and markedly
cold in winter.

Pilgrimage
: Kurukshetra, Jyotisar, Thanesar, Pehowa and
Panchkula are some major pilgrimage destinations in
Haryana.
Golf Tourism : The Aravalli Golf
Course was developed by Haryana Tourism in 1988 and
designed by Stephen Kay, a renowned golf course architect
from the U.S.A. Spread over 45 acres, it has a 18-hole
facility. There is also a club house with restaurant,
card room and billiard facilities. The Highway Golf
Course lies adjacent the Karna Lake resort. It is
a 9-hole par 3 course covering 13 acres.
Adventure Tourism : Tourists can
venture into the fascinating world of adventure sports,
here, in Haryana. Para Sailing, Rock Climbing, River
Rafting and Canoeing are activities which can be undertaken.
Surajkund Crafts Fair : The Surajkund
Crafts, an annual event that highlight some of the
finest handl om and handicraft traditions and skills
of the India, is organised under the aegis of the
Suraj Kund Mela Authority. From 1st to 15th February
rural India basks in the warmth of admiration at Surajkund
mela village that lies some 8 km from South Delhi.
The Mela also celebrates the rhythms of folk theatre
and a theme State that makes each visitor marvel.
Ambala, Bhiwani, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Karnal,
Rewari, Hisar, Jind, Kurukshetra, Jhajjar, Kaithal,
Mahendragarh, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat
and Yamunanagar are major destinations in Haryana.
Festivals
& Events
The
most picturesque festival is the Teej festival, celebrated
with the onset of the monsoon. The Harvest festival
(in April) of Baisakhi in Haryana is an experience of
a lifetime while Lohri is celebrated with deep religious
fervour. The festival of Sanjhi is celebrated in the
month of October in most of the rural part of the state.
