TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
The Grand-Ducal Palace :The historic centre of the city of Luxembourg, and is the official residence of the Grand Duke. Although the grand-ducal families actually reside at Berg Castle, the Grand-Ducal Palace is the seat of the Court and is where the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess spend their working day. It is also the venue for state ceremonies and official receptions. The Moseley Valley :The Moselle Valley is famous for Luxembourg’s vineyard and winery region. The gentle slopes on both sides of the Moselle River are covered in vineyards. A tour of the region will let you view the wineries and how the wines are made. Notre Dame Cathedral :Notre-Dame Cathedral is a tourist attraction in Luxembourg which is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Luxembourg City. It was originally a Jesuit church. The Casemates: Casemates tourist attraction Luxembourg is listed in UNESCO World Heritage site. The US Military CemeteryDuring visit to the country a visit to the US Military Cemetery is a must see tourist attraction in Luxembourg. The US Military Cemetery is situated in a silent forest clearing near the village of Hamm.
SHOPPING IN LUXEMBOURG
Luxembourg is a rich city and most shopping outlets reflect that with jewellery and European designer fashions well-represented, particularly around the Grand Rue and the Rue de la Paste where there are also numerous commercial art galleries. The Gate area surrounding the train station and comprising Avenue de la Liberté and Avenue de la Gare is another key shopping district but with most shops selling more moderately priced items. The Place d’Armes and its surrounding streets team with souvenir shops and galleries selling local crafts, clocks and pottery. As well as costly designer fashions other popular buys in Luxembourg include wines, beers and the local chocolates or knippercher Shopping centres and markets are good places to source local products at reasonable prices in Luxembourg. Auchan (5, Rue Alphonse Whicker) shopping centre on Kirchberg stocks a wide variety of goods and a particularly excellent selection of wines and local liqueurs.
LUXEMBOURG CUISINE
These are some specialties of Luxembourg: Thüringer - Inexpensive, small sausages that taste like a spicy version of the German bratwurst. They are often sold by street vendors and at roadside stands. Gromperekichelcher - Carefully spiced potato pancake with chopped onions and parsley, then deep-fried. They are available at roadside stands as well. Éisleker Ham - Smoke-cured uncooked ham, said to look like the Italian Proscuitto crudo, sliced paper-thin and commonly served with fresh bread. Kachkéis (cooked cheese) - A soft cheese spread. Pâté - A spreadable paste usually made of meat but vegetarian versions exist. Quetschentaart - A plum tart; it, along with peach, cherry, and pear tarts are a typical dessert and can be found in any pastry shop.
WEATHER
Warm weather from May to September and snow likely during winter months. The north (the Ardennes region) tends to be wetter and colder than the south.Waterproofs are advisable at all times of the year.
