BERMUDA FLIGHTS
Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. Located off the east coast of the United States, it is situated around 1770 kilometers (1,100 mi) northeast of Miami, Florida, and 1350 kilometers (840 mi) south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The nearest landmass is Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, about 1030 kilometers (640 mi) west-northwest. It is the oldest and most populous remaining British overseas territory, settled by England a century before the Acts of Union created the United Kingdom of Great Britain.ermuda has a highly affluent economy, with a large financial sector and tourism industry giving it the world's highest GDP per capita in 2005. It has a subtropical climate, beaches with pink sand, and cerulean Blue Ocean.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse - View Full-Size Climb 245 feet to the top of the world's oldest cast-iron lighthouse, built in 1846, for commanding views of the islands that comprise Bermuda. The former keeper's house has been converted into a tearoom, so visitors can cap off their descent with a warm cup of traditional English tea; breakfast, lunch and dinner also are served. Dolphin Quest - Touch, feed, play and swim with dolphins at this Dockyards attraction, with the historic buildings of the Bermuda Maritime Museum as a backdrop. Royal Naval Dockyards/Bermuda Maritime Museum. Commissioned in 1795, Bermuda's former Royal Navy base is today home to the Bermuda Maritime Museum. Sights include the former fort's massive keep, commissioner's house, and other historic buildings. Museum exhibits cover a wide range of history, including the island's seafaring trade, slavery, the annual Newport-Bermuda race, and tourism. Crystal Cave is a classic "show cave" that's popular with island visitors, who get to cross a pontoon bridge over an illuminated, 55-foot-wide underground lake; the sister Fantasy Cave is another water-filled limestone wonder. There's also a gift shop and a restaurant, Cafe Ole, on site.
SOPPING IN BERMUDA
Bermuda offers a variety of shopping experiences that start on Front Street and commence along Queen, Reid and other small streets in the City of Hamilton. Spend the day in St. George's or Dockyard as they offer unique boutique shops featuring local artists as well. There are imports from Great Britain and Ireland such as English woolens, Harris Tweed jackets, Irish linen, china, island-made jewelry, local crafts made of Bermuda cedar and local products. The major stores and smaller boutiques carry a range of cosmetics and perfumes, some of which are available at prices less than in their country of origin.
BERMUDA CUISINE
Bermuda cuisine is often superb in taste and texture. Bermuda's food and in particular Hamilton's restaurants, cafés and supermarkets offer everything your heart desires: from gourmet five-course dinners to 'Bangers and Hash' in the local pub. The most traditional meal is Sunday codfish breakfast, a huge affair consisting of codfish, eggs, boiled Irish potatoes, bananas, avocado, with a sauce of onions and tomatoes. Cassava pie is a Christmas tradition and celebrates the special significance the vegetable for Bermudians. The local rum is Gosling's Black Seal Rum. The way to drink it is as 'Dark'n Stormy' - with ginger beer in a ratio of 2:1. And speaking of rum, don't even think of leaving Bermuda before trying the Bermuda Rum Cake, a traditional local delicacy famous around the world
WEATHER
The climate is generally mild and humid, with temperatures varying from an average of 62F (16C) in February to an average of 82F (28C) in August. The average rainfall is between 50 and 60 inches (127 and 152 centimeters) per annum, spread reasonably evenly throughout the year.
CURRENCY
Bermuda has a subtropical climate with temperatures moderated by the warm Gulf Stream. Winters in St George's Town are mild, with an average temperature of about 62°F (17°C), though strong winds are common. May to October is very hot and humid, with especially high humidity in July and August. Summer temperatures average about 78°F (26°C). Rainfall is highest in October, though showers can occur throughout the year. Although Bermuda is usually fairly well protected, hurricanes can occur from August to October, bringing high waves and strong winds.
